Standard Details

Sika Single-Ply roofing systems are supported by a full range of high-performance detailing solutions designed to ensure a watertight and long-lasting finish across even the most complex roof structures. These include pre-formed corners, internal and external angle pieces, pipe collars, and perimeter edge trims—all manufactured to the same rigorous standards as the main membrane. The detailing components are compatible with a wide range of substrates and are installed using hot-air welding, creating strong, seamless bonds that eliminate the need for adhesives or mechanical fixings. This ensures consistency, reduces the risk of leaks, and provides a neat, professional finish across upstands, penetrations, and junctions.

To support correct installation, Sika also provides a comprehensive library of standard detail drawings covering all typical roof interfaces—available in PDF and CAD formats. These drawings include details for edge terminations, outlet penetrations, abutments, gutters, rooflights, and more, helping installers and specifiers ensure compliance with best practice and system warranties.

Decorative Profiles

Sika Single-Ply roofing systems offer a robust and modern alternative to traditional lead and metal detailing, providing the same visual appeal with enhanced performance and ease of installation. Using Sika’s specialist membrane detailing techniques, features such as drip edges, flashings, and cappings can be replicated with precision—without the weight, cost, or theft risk associated with traditional metals.

The membranes can be hot-air welded and mechanically formed to create clean, sharp lines that mimic the appearance of lead rolls or metal seams, offering a sleek finish that complements both contemporary and heritage-style buildings. Pre-formed components and edge trims are also available to simplify installation while ensuring long-term weatherproofing. Unlike metal, Sika Single-Ply detailing will not corrode, crack, or expand and contract excessively, ensuring durability and low maintenance over time. This makes it an ideal choice for achieving a traditional look with the benefits of modern waterproofing technology.

Installation

Installing Sika Single-Ply membranes with a heat gun is a precise and efficient method that ensures strong, durable seams without the use of adhesives or solvents. The process involves using a hot-air welding gun to fuse overlapping membrane joints, creating a watertight bond that is both seamless and long-lasting.

The installer carefully preps the area, aligns the membranes with the correct overlap (typically 60–100mm), and then uses the heat gun—set to the appropriate temperature based on ambient conditions—to heat the mating surfaces. A silicone roller is then used to press the membranes together, ensuring full fusion and a smooth, uniform finish.

This method allows for clean detailing around upstands, outlets, and penetrations, and is suitable for use in a wide range of weather conditions. Compared to traditional bitumen systems, heat-welded single-ply installations are faster, cleaner, and safer—eliminating the need for naked flames on site and significantly reducing fire risk.

We recommend the Leister TRIAC ST heat gun, which is preferred by many installers and the Siak Sika training staff. Please email us for pricing on the gun and Single Ply kits
